Some Interesting Linux Stuff

21-Jul-08

My friend Chris likes to pick on me for being a minimalist. He also notes that I hunt out new Linux distros like a rapist in a convent. (OK, so metaphors aren’t my thing…) Here’s some great stuff I’ve run across lately that I do not want to forget:

Sidux - bleeding-edge Debian [...]

Satisfying dependencies with equivs in Debian

19-May-08

I run Debian Etch at home. Etch is the stable release of Debian, and I enjoy having the stability that comes with running the…errm, “stable” flavor of Debian. However, I need to run the latest JACK audio server (currently 0.109.2), and that just isn’t gonna happen in Etch. So, I compile from [...]

Aldrin Debian/Ubuntu packages

16-May-08

I needed this recently, so I’m dropping it here.
www.pohunek.free.fr/

The purpose of this site is to provide the community with binary and source packages for Aldrin and Libzzub.
The only distributions supported at the moment are Debian (testing/unstable) and Ubuntu (current).
Packages are often updated in order to reflect the progress of the project between official releases.

Why laptops on gigs are scary…

12-May-08

A recent post from a prolific internet musician Ken points out some of the issues with performing with a laptop:

I’m trying to baby this new Asus and I hope I get at least a few years out of it. I do sweat quite a bit when gigging though. I’m keenly aware that, one pull [...]
